Serious About Fire Protection? The MagnaVault EX Is Built for Florida

If you’ve already decided the entry-level safes aren’t enough — you’ve read about 30-minute and 75-minute fire ratings and thought “that’s not long enough for my peace of mind” — you’re in MagnaVault EX territory.

This is the step up from the DynaVault. Same dual-threat concept (burglary AND fire), but with 105 minutes of fire protection, heavier construction, and a broader size range for serious document and valuables storage.

Who the Hayman MagnaVault EX is right for

  • Homeowners serious about fire survival — you want margin past typical fire department response, not just “probably enough”
  • Small businesses with daily receipts, payroll records, and client documents — law offices, medical practices, accounting firms, insurance agents
  • Collectors of paper-based valuables — stamp collections, first-edition books, comic books, vintage documents, genealogical archives
  • Families with irreplaceable items — wedding albums, heritage jewelry, vinyl records, signed memorabilia
  • Rural Brevard homeowners in Mims, Christmas, Fellsmere, or west Palm Bay where fire response takes longer
  • People who want “one safe and done” — the MagnaVault EX is generational

What the 105-minute fire rating actually means

A fire rating isn’t a marketing number — it’s a UL-verified test where the safe is placed in a test furnace, the temperature is ramped to 1700°F+, and interior temperature is monitored. To earn a 105-minute rating, the interior must stay below 350°F (the paper-scorch threshold) for the full duration.

In a real Brevard house fire, that 105 minutes covers:

  • Full fire department response (typically 6–15 minutes)
  • Fire knockdown and overhaul (30–60 minutes)
  • Structure cooldown before salvage (30+ minutes)
  • Plus margin for any response delays

The difference between 75 and 105 minutes isn’t small — it’s the difference between “probably survived” and “definitely survived” in worst-case scenarios.

What you actually get

  • 105-minute UL-verified fire protection — tested to 1700°F+
  • Heavy-gauge steel body and reinforced door
  • Active 3-way boltwork with multiple 1-1/4″ locking bolts
  • Hardplate and relocker — tamper-resistant lock protection
  • Electronic keypad lock standard with emergency backup key
  • Multi-layered fire board construction — not just gypsum, but engineered fire-resistant composite
  • Interior shelving and document dividers
  • Lifetime burglary guarantee

When MagnaVault EX is NOT the right choice

  • Your budget is under $2,000. The DynaVault is genuinely good protection at a lower price — 75-minute fire rating and UL burglary listing.
  • You need a rated burglary cert for insurance. MagnaVault EX is UL-listed but not TL-rated. For high-value jewelry or cash requiring insurance-mandated burglary certification, step up to the MagnaVault TL30.
  • You’re storing firearms as primary use. Gun safes are optimized for long-gun racks and shotgun height. Use a BlackHills or Rockies.
  • Fire is your only concern, not burglary. If you genuinely don’t need burglary protection and want fire only, the FlameVault is cheaper.

Florida-specific considerations

Lightning-caused attic fires. Brevard leads Florida (and Florida leads the country) in lightning strikes. Attic fires from lightning often burn undetected for several minutes before smoke detection — which means the fire has a head start on response time. A 105-minute rating is our standard recommendation for Brevard homes where you’re protecting truly irreplaceable documents.

Humidity control matters more at this size. Larger interior volumes need more active dehumidification. We install plug-in dehumidifier rods or rechargeable desiccant units on all MagnaVault EX installs.

Hurricane survival. A bolted-down MagnaVault EX is going to survive most things that leave your house standing. Combine fire and burglary ratings with hurricane resistance and you have a single storage solution that covers all three Florida risks.
